Update 4/9/2007

The CL West boasts BOTH of the majors' top teams, as Twin Cities and Salt Lake are both 6-0. Detroit and Indianapolis are both 4-2 and atop the CL Northeast, and Orlando tops the Atlantic at 5-2, a half game better than the defending champs Atlanta.

In the UL, upstart Philly is 5-1 and leads the East, a half game better than Baltimore; the NY Kings are 4-2, one game back, and New England is 3-3.

At 5-1 Louisville leads the South, a game better than Memphis, while Las Vegas leads the West at 4-2, one game better than surprising LA (3-3).

Also of note, the only winless team left in the bigs? The Miami Glades at 0-7.

Btw, the Tides dropped 2 out of 3 at Memphis before taking 2 out of 3 against rivals NYK. New England starts a 3 game set at Sacramento on Tuesday.
Baltimore started on a 7-game road trip, but a stretch of 3 games in 4 days against Philly in Baltimore begins Monday.
After 6 at home, the NY Kings are in Pittsburgh for 3 starting Tuesday.
And the Memphis Rhythm cap off a 4 game home series against Pittsburgh with a day game on Monday, before starting a tough road stretch--3 each at Seattle and Las Vegas.

Also of note, in AAA...New Jersey (NYK) is 8-0 in the North American League, the only AAA unbeaten. Columbus and Nashville are each 6-2. In the Frontier League, it's 7-1 St. Paul (TCL) that's out in front, with El Paso and Tucson at 6-2 as well.

AML United League East Division Preview

Welcome to the new semi-official home for the American Major Leagues, and their affiliates in the American Minor Leagues.

For the benefit of one of our newest fans, we do a quick run-down of the East Division of the United League. At the top of the heap is of course J. S. Schleicher's New York Kings, winners of 3 consecutive UL Pennants, and 2 of the last 3 overall titles. The then-Trenton Fury won back-to-back North American Series behind "Three Finger" Lopez Award winner and All-Star Matthew Wise, before the USML branding contracts disputes cleared up in court and the Fury took the name of one of baseball's most beloved teams, the New York Kings. The Kings continued their run, though "The Warden" Wise, the 3-time All-Star and 3-time Lopez Award Winner, had an off year (by his lofty standards). The Kings coughed up a series lead in the newly-renamed American Series, ultimately losing to the Atlanta Jets. The Kings of Queens (and NJ) look primed to continue their run of dominance, returning Matt Wise along with the bulk of their stellar staff.

The New England Tides enter 2007 looking to forget most of last year. The Tides, usually in the thick of the 3-team race in the East, fell off the pace, and spent the final weeks of the season playing for pride. They boasted the Offensive MVP of the UL...but he has shipped out overseas. New England returns star hurlers like strikeout master Hank Claassen and Luis "Crystal" Green, who gave up his former ace role. Familiar faces mix with a decent mix of newcomers on this roster, though, to make the 07 season a question mark at FAUNACORP Field in Boston.

The DC franchise hopped back down the Beltway for 2006, returning to their Baltimore Monarchs roots. With pitching fan-favorite Sal Kitts in the rearview mirror, but some other familiars back, the "Rulers of a Nation's Game" continued to trade punches with NYK for the best team in the division and possibly the entire league, coming up just short. The Navy-and-Gray show few signs of stopping this year, as they should continue to give the Kings fits, and could well break through past their bigger market rivals.

The 2006 season was historic for the Pittsburgh Vikings, as it was their first year in the AML. Unfortunately, that was pretty much all that was memorable about their season. Year One for the Vikes would go down as one of the worst years for any team in baseball history, as the first-year club struggled to find its footing in baseball's highest level. The Steel City sluggers have laid the groundwork, and look to make their sophomore season something special.

The Philadelphia Cavalry have long been the ugly stepsisters of the United-East, and 2006 was no exception. The Cavvies have spoke of a rebranding or at least a color tweak after the 2007 season, and they hope it will be following a stellar campaign. Rumors include a change from two-tone brown with black to a black-heavy scheme with brown and silver accents, a complete font change, and all-new caps.
No word yet on the on-field performance expectations though.
